English Lesson Links

updated June 16, 2002

ESOL | English Grammar / Writing| GED Preparation
Teacher Prep | Miscellaneous

This links page has many sections. In each section, you'll see

  • a picture of what the site looks like,

  • a short description of some of the things you'll find on that site, and,

  • underlined, the website address.

  • If you put your cursor over the address, it will change into a hand. If you click at that time, you'll leave the TeacherPat site and go to the recommended site. Remember, even though everything on this website is free for you to download and send to friends, that may not be true of all the websites listed here.

ESOL

This is a single lesson, written in fairly high-level language, about using articles in English.

Dave's ESOL café is possibly the best known ESOL site and has oodles of links.

ENGLISH GRAMMAR / WRITING

The Daily Grammar site offers the possibility of signing up in January or September and getting a free grammar lesson via e-mail each Monday-Friday and getting the answers on Saturday. The lessons are then archived by topic (parts of speech, parts of sentences, capitalization, punctuation, etc.) These are good min-lessons for students capable of working independently on the Internet.

GED PREPARATION SITES

This site is run by Steck-Vaughn, a publishing company that specializes in GED preparation books. You do need to register to see the practice questions, but there is no cost involved.

This has a good intro to the science part of the GED exam and lots of links, which may be too much for some students, but which are outstanding for teachers.

This is an outstanding site for students needing help on the essay portion of the GED.

This is an about.com list of links all about the GED.

All of the above sites were recommended by David Rosen of the Adult Literacy Resource Institute in Boston, Massachusetts. David also compiles the Literacy List, noted in the teacher prep links.
